Dear Valued Member of the Mt. Morris Schools Community,
I am writing this communication in order to provide you with information regarding an upcoming Sinking Fund Renewal election for Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools. It is important to stress that a renewal will not increase the amount of taxes you currently pay for the Sinking Fund millage.
In 2006 the Mt. Morris School District asked the community to pass a Sinking Fund millage which allowed the district to complete much needed facility upgrades to our school buildings and grounds. The community saw the value in the additional monies collected by the projects which were completed and as a result renewed the millage in 2008 and 2011.
Our current Sinking Fund millage expires in December of 2014 and a renewal election will be held on May 6, 2014. Although the District has completed many projects with the use of sinking funds, we have many more facility upgrades that are needed. Additional Sinking Fund monies would be used to address identified areas of need. A list of projects completed with previous Sinking Funds is below. It is important to note that Sinking Fund revenue cannot be used for operational expenses, such as salaries or instructional supplies. By law, funds must be used for building projects and site improvements.
This blog has been developed to provide additional information regarding a Sinking Fund millage and the upcoming election. This blog can also be accessed through our school’s website, www.mtmorrisschools.org. Please feel free to call me with any questions at 591-8760 or click here to e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Tricia Hill
Superintendent
